Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Draft:David Merriman

Indefinite move protection: Page title dispute/move warring – User with a possible conflict of interest constantly moving to the main namespace. They were asked not to move and submit for a review instead but there is no effect of the request. Also there is a case of socking as well. Reason: High level of IP Disruptive unsourced edits. It comes from a IP range that's already partially blocked.

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

The article is simultaneously semi-protected as well as pending protected, both with indefinite deadlines. I thought there should be only one type of edit-protection, if not one indefinite and the other time-based like the page kate Ryan.102.159.242.79 (talk) 20:43, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Israel–Hamas war

Change "Since the start of the Israeli operation, more than 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 15,000 children and 10,000 women.[87][88]" to "Since the start of the Israeli operation, nearly 35,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed,[86] including over 7,000 children and nearly 5,000 women.[87][88]." This is based on the data recently revised by the UN, accessible here: https://www.ochaopt.org/content/hostilities-gaza-strip-and-israel-reported-impact-day-215. ConDissenter (talk) 21:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Is there another place to request this change? The talk page for Israel-Hamas war is restricted as well. The current source for casualty data is palinfo.com, which describes itself by saying it "does not lay any claim to neutrality for it blatantly sides with the oppressed Palestinian people." https://english.palinfo.com/about-us/. Recognizing that reliable sources do not need to have a neutral POV, why should we use this as a source rather than a less biased source like the United Nations? ConDissenter (talk) 18:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
@ConDissenter Please go check Talk:Israel–Hamas war for earlier discussions and to see why your request is unlikely to succeed. FYI, the lower numbers refer not to the killed overall but to the killed who have additionally been identified by name. Besides, all the numbers are sourced to Gaza MoH anyway. — kashmīrī TALK 09:45, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, Kashmiri. I recognize the data is all coming from the same place. (I've tried to access but can't find a reliable site for the Gaza Health Ministry to find the data directly, so I assume the UN is accurately presenting the data.) I agree it hasn't changed the total number killed which is why I didn't suggest a change to that -- beyond fixing the "more than" to "nearly" 35,000. But I don't see any basis for keeping outdated numbers on women and children. The old ratio was 72% and the new ratio was 52%. The talk page suggests we need to wait for more RS, but at this point there are plenty:
https://www.npr.org/2024/05/15/1251265727/un-gaza-death-toll-women-children

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/gaza-women-children-death-toll-1.7203167
Is there any way to flag this for the editors of that page, even on the Talk page? ConDissenter (talk) 23:40, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

User:Princess of Ara

I recently noticed this user, Princess of Ara. An editor who works mainly on Nigerian related articles and others. While trying to appreciate the user's effort, I got in love with the lovely articles, well sources, written from a volunteer in good faith and now, I am requesting that she be granted the auto patrol user right. It'll also help reduce heavy backlog of NPP. Thanks for your consideration! Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 08:05, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Not done I've looked at your last ten articles, which takes me back a couple of years. I note that some admins here decline requests if the rate of new articles is low, which this is. I don't mind a low rate of article creation, but they do have to be clean. I've done some editing of some of your articles, leaving detailed edit summaries from which you will hopefully pick up a few things. What tipped things over the edge, though, is you moving this draft from another user to mainspace and then leaving it in that poor state; that's the exact opposite of a clean article. List of Nigerian films of 2023 is also clearly unfinished; there's no problem with work to be incomplete, but it shouldn't have empty sections or empty tables. If you go back and tidy up previous sins and produce a few more (clean) articles, please feel free to come back and I'd be happy to take another look, Princess of Ara. User:Prince of Erebor

I have created 79 articles, primarily focused on Sinophone cinema and fantasy literature, with 2 currently undergoing GAN. All of my articles have been promptly reviewed, and none of them have been deleted or marked for maintenance. I am requesting autopatrolled rights to alleviate the workload of the patrollers, especially those who actively review film articles and have reviewed the majority of my articles, allowing them to allocate more time to address articles that truly require attention. As a side note, I am a veteran editor with patroller rights on Chinese Wikipedia, having authored over 200 articles, including a dozen featured and good articles. While I fully understand that there are differences in policies and MOS across different Wikipedias, I believe this demonstrates my credibility and knowledge in assessing article quality.— Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 13:18, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

User:SheriffIsInTown

I frequently create articles on notable subjects, having authored 530 articles, with the majority facing no issues. Only three were deleted, mainly due to changes in election results affecting their notability. I'm requesting autopatroller rights to ease the burden on other editors reviewing my articles and help reduce the backlog of new article reviews. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 23:36, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Not done, no reflection on the past decline, which after several months of attempts and ANI threads that included a nontrivial amount of support for a CIR indef (!), is regrettably now more of a "never" than a "not now". signed, Rosguill talk 17:48, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Well, no hard feeling for the denial as before. You administrators are too quick to impose WP:CIR against a new editor. But you never exercise WP:CIRNOT and go straight to the 4th of WP: CIRRESP. I won't be wondering if I get indef for placing this issue. Such a shame. Twinkle1990 (talk) 15:25, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Hey, I'm requesting Autopatrolled because I mainly make election maps and correct election maps. For a while now, I have been requesting individual files so I can override them with updated data or shape the maps. I'm very experienced in making maps and always make sure I have correct information. Would I be able to have Autopatrolled? Thank you GatewayPolitics (talk) 21:38, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

also I've created a decent amount of articles GatewayPolitics (talk) 01:04, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Not done Autopatrolled would not aid with election maps. While you have created 61 articles, many of them such as 2010 Tennessee Senate election and 2008 Tennessee House of Representatives election are not free of issues and require additional attention. - Aoidh (talk) 01:54, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
@Aoidh is there a way that I would be able to override maps without requesting? GatewayPolitics (talk) 03:11, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
If you're referring to uploading a new version of files like in this comment then if they're on Commons then it would be handled through Commons, but either way isn't something Wikipedia:Autopatrolled on the English Wikipedia would help with in any way. - Aoidh (talk) 06:08, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Oh alright thanks for the help. GatewayPolitics (talk) 13:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

User:Florificapis

I got busy in real life for most of March and April, so my request was put on hold per [4]. Here is my original reason for requesting NPR permissions again.

I have over 120 new articles under my belt, mostly relating to medieval history, monasteries, saints, and geographical features. I am familiar with the kinds of content that would fall under CSD criteria, since I have experience wikifying new pages and tagging obviously problematic new pages for speedy deletion. I know the guidelines on notability, proper sourcing, draftifying new articles, rating talk pages using scripts, AfC, AfD, and other essential patrolling tasks. Would be quite happy to reduce the backlog while being cautious and careful. Also currently a Pending Changes Reviewer. Florificapis (talk) 00:09, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

I participated in the December backlog drive, being granted a trial. At the end of the trial I requested permanent NPP, which was denied with the denying admin expressing concern that I hadn't created any articles. I've since created an article about Neeraj Gupta (refer to User_talk:TarnishedPath/Archive_2#Your_submission_at_Articles_for_creation:_Neeraj_Gupta_(sculptor)_has_been_accepted) and been responsible for the bulk of the material in the newly created article Bruce Lehrmann‎. I had been working on Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ but someone else started work on Bruce Lehrmann‎ just as I submitted Draft:Bruce Lehrmann‎ to AfC so I ended up merging my work over to the mainspace article and issuing a CSD for deletion of the draft. I've continued to be semi-regularly involved with AfD. I'm applying because I got a notification a while ago that there was a backlog drive for May and I'm willing to help out a bit with that. Hello. I was initially given a month long trial as a new page reviewer after receiving an invitation on my user page, and I've been enjoying everything so far: reviewing pages, providing feedback, sending WikiLove to new and returning users who have made exceptional first attempts, tagging issues, and resolving issues myself (that could otherwise be tagged) when I have time in an attempt to reduce the backlog. I have already been renewed once, and my second trial expires in a little over two weeks (May 26th). I'm requesting either an indefinite or longer-term ability to review new pages before my time lapses. Haven't had any behavioral issues, and I try to treat all users with respect. I will continue to help clear the backlog in the meantime. Thanks again. Trainsskyscrapers (talk) 00:06, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

I was turned down last July 2023 as being too early. I have since increased my article (incl. BLP) creation, and have done major overhaul and expansions of important topic articles here. I remain autopatrolled on Wikipedia and WikiCommons, continue to participate in AfD, and have done some PRODS. Am willing to learn the NPP process. Thank you. Hello. I had the new page reviewer permission but for some reason it was taken away without any explanation. I would like to apply for it again or at least get the reasoning for the removal of my permission Rahammz (talk) 01:43, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I was granted a one month trial with the NPP right and feel as though I did a decent job. I mainly focused on marking obviously acceptable articles. I didn't do a ton of reviewing, but I then again I felt like doing more than a handful a day would have been overstepping the constraints of a trial permission. If it is ok with the coordinating admins, I'd like to keep using the NPP right; feel welcome to simply renew the trial period for another month if you need more indication that I'll stick to procedure. ~ Pbritti (talk) 13:29, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

I was suggested to apply here, and I've decided to volunteer. To make this more consistent:
I'm an AFC reviewer and I mostly create articles and review articles relating to biographies, as well as biological or scientific topics. I have DYK, GA, and vast experience with AFD and other noticeboard discussions. I'd like to volunteer in new pages patrolling as well to help reduce the queue. (I most likely won't be reviewing pages daily, but whenever I do, I'd do a thorough review, and I'm very collaborative. I provide feedback and at times amend issues myself of the pages I review).
Note that I've had a name change, so certain stats tool pages might not work properly. And 3 out of 4 of my deleted pages were self delete.

Thanks.

Requests for page mover

Page mover

User:ToadetteEdit

Reason for requesting page mover rights: multiple reasons including to swap pages (as a result of RM discussions) and suppress redirects, especially R2 eligible. I understood that I won't abuse this privileged right and read the instructions. ToadetteEdit! 15:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

User:SafariScribe

Hi, I request to volunteer in moving pages with the extended right. I usually draftify pages and instead if automatically deleting them, it is being marked for CSD, another increase to the backlog. Following my involvement with early page moving, I was advised to get the page mover right by Liz, and now, I also saw it can be granted at the discretion of the admin. Also, while moving pages, I at times submit technical request if a closed move request—something I can do with page mover right. This is a volunteer work I have decided to take and thanks for you consideration. I also promise not to misuse the right Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 19:34, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Re-requesting after my one-month trial expired a month ago. I rename pages when it's necessary to make a round-robin swap, draftify new articles, and periodically close RMs. I also sometimes help in renaming categories for CfD. Cremastra (talk) 20:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

User:TornadoLGS

I have spent some time patrolling recent edits and have draftified some articles and would like page-mover rights so that I can suppress redirects that would be R2-elegible. Additionally, while not something I have done as much recently, I have spent time editing tropical cyclone articles, which have been targeted over the years by an LTA known for page-move vandalism. I've done reverting vandalism (Although I was on a hiatus since Golden Week as the vandal level hit 5) for some months now, with my edits growing over 2000 from 89ish including other works, and I request this permission to help with the works. I understand that I did make a misunderstandment couple of weeks ago and I have revised the guidelines to prevent another instance of that happening. I've been editing Wikipedia since 2004 and have been mainly working on articles about New Zealand, musical instruments, and wine. I've helped build several articles up to GA (cimbasso, serpent, contrabass trombone, soprano trombone) and reviewed several others. It would be good to be able to approve pending useful contributions to protected articles; the current article that prompted this request is the trombone article, which I'd also like to work on. Just noting that the last guideline does not seem to be met quite yet; there are still pending requests, and some of the requested changes seem trivial (though I do recognise that figuring out something like Special:Diff/1222657015 may be non-trivial even though it looks like a simple change). Primefac (talk) 12:29, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
I don't really interpret any of my requests as non-trivial. Even the ones that do take time really just amount to bug-fixes. I figured I'd request the permission anyway because it's unlikely that I will ever make those sorts of significant requests, in the course of what I'm currently doing anyway.
For the record though, I consider Chembox, Multiple image, and Tree chart to be non-trivial by your definition. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 13:36, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Well, I did give you credit for three... But that's just the numbers, not the interpretation.
Re: your latest comment, though: is this something that you see yourself needing indefinitely, or is it more of a short-term "sort out dark mode and then I'm done" sort of thing? Primefac (talk) 13:54, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
When I'm done with this, if I have the perm indefinitely I probably won't actively seek out new template work to do. Might handle edit reqs occasionally and do things that need doing as I stumble upon them, but not much more unless I find some other big 'project' I like. I have no objections to a limited time/scope grant. Snowmanonahoe (talk · contribs · typos) 14:59, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

You wanted it for dark mode-related content, so I suspect that's what you'll primarily be using it for. If you happen to answer some TPERs, I don't think anyone is going to give you any grief. I'm not going to get so formal as to state that you can only use it for one purpose, that would be silly. Just don't screw anything up Primefac (talk) 15:06, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
